Pete Sampras and Roger Federer - Bazi analysis
by Jayashree Bose

Wimbledon has started and tennis fans from all over the world are glued to their television sets. Personally I hoped last year Federer would win and continue his journey in equaling or setting new records. It has been said that Roger Fereder is one of the best tennis players ever. In professional tennis it is difficult to achieve a "Career grand slam" only three men since the open era in 1968 have ever won a career grand slam (winner in all four grand slam tournaments) – Rod Laver, Andre Agassi and Roger Federer. He has equalled Andre Agassi's record of three wins in four years in Australian Open, youngest player in the world to win all five grand slams, equals the record of Pete sampras of most grand slam tiles (14). Federer is the only player in tennis history to win at least five consecutive titles at two different Grand Slam tournaments (2003-07 Wimbledon, 2004-08 US Open). He is the only player in tennis history to win the same two Grand Slam tournaments back to back for four consecutive years (2004-07). He is also the only one to win at least two Grand Slam titles for four consecutive years (2004-2007). Sampras is the only other man to win two Grand Slams in a calendar year four different times (1993-95, 1997), but unlike Federer, they were not won in consecutive years. He has won at least one Grand Slam title for the past seven years (2003-09), and he is the first tennis player to be ranked No. 1 for more than 200 consecutive weeks.

As a bazi practitioner I am intrigued by Federer’s bazi (four pillars) and I match it with another great tennis player Pete Sampras. It’s interesting to note that both players have similar bazi’s.

When I compare both Sampras’s and Federer’s bazi chart the first thing that strikes me is that both day master’s are earth element born in the month of shen (monkey). Federer’s day master is wu (yang earth) and Sampras’s day master is ji (yin earth). Federer’s natal chart is about resource and output. This means he learns, he practices hard and then puts his skills to use. I donot have Pete Sampras’s time of birth but I think it will be in the morning hours. Sampras natal chart is about resource, output and wealth. This means he learns, he practices hard, then puts his skills to use and through his skills he earns money. Both Federer and Sampras are motivated by appreciation and are competitive by nature. These kind of charts have good output before the age of thirty five therefore it can be said that any person with this kind of chart will shine because of their skills before the age of thirty five.

Both have good traveling stars, meaning they will do well in any field that requires them to travel. Both have solitary stars therefore the inclination to play more singles then double. People with solitary star prefer working alone.

Will Federer be able to set new precedents in the world of tennis? According to his bazi yes he will be. He may sustain some injury to his limbs especially his left side in the year of geng yin (2010) .

On a whim I just checked the day master’s of “all time top ten tennis players” listed in an article by Sports Truth. Again I was surprised.

Seven out of thirteen have earth element (two yang earths and five yin earths) as their day master, two yang woods, two yin water and two metals (one yin and one yang). Tennis is counted as a metal sport, output especially hurting officer is suitable for sports people and shows that a person can shine in a sport. For earth element day master output is metal probably thats the reason you can find more of earth element day master in this sport.

If you or your child require metal element or metal element is favorable for you then you can play tennis as a sport.
