(Excerpt from the “Feng shui 2012” e-book by Jayashree Bose) The Chinese year of Ren Chen (water dragon) is here and it begins on 4th February 2012 (solar calendar*). What does the year hold in store for all of us? Will the world come to an end in 2012? Will your business do well in 2012? Most of us have read or heard about the predictions about the end of the world in 2012. There is also a movie 2012 in which the whole world is under water and the last surviving people are on huge ships. Well in 2012 there will be natural disasters related to water but I don’t think the whole world will sink.
What kind of natural disasters could occur in 2012? The year Ren Chen (yang water dragon) has two elements – water element on top of earth element. Ren (yang water) represents the sea, storms, ocean and chen (dragon) represents a luxuriant green tropical mountain. Besides earth chen(dragon) has two hidden elements gui (yin water) and yi (yin wood). Generally in the theory of wuxing (five elements interaction) earth controls water however in this case ren (yang water) is strong because of the presence of gui (yin water) as one of the hidden elements. This year you can expect torrential rains, storms, hurricanes and it will cause flooding which will destroy agricultural crops, properties, farm land and it could also result in landslides in mountain areas, dams collapsing etc. Since #5yellow is visiting the southeast and #2 black star is in the north, most of these incidents are likely to occur in the south-eastern and northern parts of the world, continents, countries, states and cities. Ren Chen being a year of strong yang water and earth element, there will be more accidents related to the sea and mountain areas. There will a rise in environmental concerns over land erosion or the level of ocean water rising. Islands that have dangerous water levels need to be cautious as the water level may suddenly go up resulting in property destruction and deaths. In 2012 massive amounts of land will be eroded away therefore countries, states and cities in coastal areas need to have precautionary methods to prevent major disasters and casualties. This year landslides and flooding will be a common phenomena.
How will your business do in 2012? In feng shui and bazi (Chinese astrology) various industries are represented by elements. To know which industry will do well you will have to understand the interaction between the five elements. Metal element related industries like jewellery; dealers in gold, silver, copper, iron; manufacturers of steel, aluminum products, grills, pewter; automobiles; banking sector; medical equipments; hardware will see a lot of productivity and activity. These industries will make profits during the first half of the year after which profits will go down. Fire element related industries and businesses dealing in fire element like oil; fuel; petroleum and petroleum by-products; cosmetics; electronics, power; computers; aviation; entertainment; laser technology; nuclear technology; arms and ammunition, airlines will face a tough year ahead. There will be some activity however profits will be next to nil. Some of these industries may stop operations due to non-performance. Water element related industries and businesses dealing in water elements like transportation; courier; tourism; fishery; communications; mineral water; laundry; travel agency; wine merchants; brewery will see a lot of competition. This year making profits from these industries will be difficult. There will be policy changes that will further hamper the growth of such industries. Property market will see a lot of productivity. Property market and other earth related industries like ceramics; antique dealer; construction; healers; security agencies; pottery; marble dealer; stone quarries; building material dealers (cement, stone, sand, stone chips); insurance agencies will see a profit making year. There will be new competition in the market. Wood industry and businesses dealing in wood elements like textiles; garments; books; schools; colleges; educational institutions; timber; fashion; paper; handicraft; herbs; floriculture; agriculture; plantations of tea, coffee, rubber, bamboo, rice, wheat etc will have a profit making year ahead.
*The Chinese follow two different calendars, the lunar calendar and the solar calendar which they use for different purposes. The lunar calendar is mainly used for marking traditional events such as the Chinese new year, duan wu festival etc; the solar calendar is used for feng shui and bazi (Chinese astrology). This year the Chinese new year (lunar calendar) is on 23rd January 2012 however for feng shui purpose (solar calendar) the year starts on 4th February 2012.
