Jayashree's note

My interesting profession

I have a curious profession. I arouse awe and a certain amount of fear in people. Some are blind believers, some sceptics, some think I have super human abilities and some have really funny questions.

Most people expect me to take care of their problems with “instant” and “lasting” results. It is difficult for most to understand that “instant” and “lasting” don’t go hand in hand. Freshly ground Arabica coffee beans brewed to perfection and instant coffee don’t produce the same taste. As students of feng shui we were taught only one formula that can accelerate feng shui results in other words give you instant feng shui results. The catch, it can only be applied if all other feng shui aspects are perfect. As a practitioner I know that all other aspects of feng shui are rarely perfect. I am yet to audit the perfect plot of land or a perfect house, chances are high I will not because such a place or house is perfect and will not have any problems, will not be rich or poor, will have minimal health issues, will be happy, will be perfect.

At work I can easily divide my cases into two different segments the easy ones and the hard ones. The easy cases are the business cases. Why? Simple, all businesses are created with one focus and that is money. My job is to ensure continuous flow of money the more the better. The tough cases are the emotional ones. Emotions need to heal, healing takes time. It is harder because the client generally comes after the problem has occurred or during the peak of the problem. Preventive advice doesn’t work in such cases. Then I am the shoulder they cry on, the considerate ear, they can express their woes and not worry about it ever coming back to them. Sometimes due to divine intervention a client would come before the crisis occurs then preventive advice saves them from a lot of heartache.

The high in my profession is not fame but in knowing that by using my knowledge I have made someone else’s life better. The low are the cases where people are averse to changes. They want me to change their lives without playing an active role. It’s like enrolling for a weight loss program but you are unwilling to diet or exercise.

I guess that encompasses my curious profession. Before I end for today here’s the funniest part of my profession the weird questions from prospective clients “do I have to become a vegetarian?” “are you from Chinese origin?” “which God should I pray to?” “do you have God’s hot number?” O.K. I made up the last one.

Have a great month ahead. Till we meet again. See you soon.
