In this section you will learn how to take measurements for external features. For this I generally take a walk on the rooftop of any apartment building or house, this gives a better perspective of where what is located. You should note that even if the sha qi is not visible from inside the house it does have an effect on the house.
- You will require the floor plan to be drawn to scale.
- Draw two diagonal lines to find the center of the house. Point A given in the diagram below marks the center of the building.

- Stand at the center of the building.
- You have to divide the floor plan into 8 halves. (see diagram above).
- The eight directions will be divided as
| North |
352.5 degrees to 37.5degrees |
| Northeast |
37.5 to 82.5 degrees |
| East |
82.5 to 127.5 degrees |
| Southeast |
127.5 to 172.5 degrees |
| South |
172.5 to 217.5 degrees |
| Southwest |
217.5 to 262.5 degrees |
| West |
262.5 to 307.5 degrees |
| Northwest |
307.5 to 352.5 degrees |
To remember better just draw the external features onto the floor plan as shown in the diagram below

This will help you in knowing the location of transformers, main gate, garage, roads, mountains, rivers, lakes, pylons, open area etc.
Remember to keep the compass on a flat surface and away from electrical as well as magnetic interference.
To be continued.
