-
Always ensure that you are not standing next to any electrical transformers or electronic gadgets, metallic gates. Avoid any area that might have an effect on the compass reading.
-
Not all houses have 90 degrees wall so you have to be careful while taking the measurements (always look at the floor plan first before beginning to take the measurements).
-
You will require a reliable compass for this. Buy one that has all the 360 degrees outlined or you could also opt for a reliable digital compass. (A lo pan is not necessary for beginners).
-
It is always best to carry a small notepad and pen to write down the measurements.
-
If the reading you have taken falls in between the mountains or triagrams then it is better if you recheck your readings by taking two other readings.
Door facing -
- Stand at the center of the door way and point the compass outwards. (See figure 1)

Here the person in standing in between a open door and facing outside.
If this is not possible due to electrical lines or metal gates than stand five feet away from the door. Remember you have to be parallel to the door.

Here the person is standing 5 feet (parallel) away from the door and facing outside.
- House facing -
When house and door facing are different then you have to take separate measurements for both.
- Stand parallel to the house (the direction the house faces) and take the measurements. (See figure 3).

Door facing measurements will be taken like stated above.
To be continued.
