The importance of annual assessment

After I launched my site I have received many mails regarding annual assessment, date selection, and Chinese astrology. Instead of replying to each one separately I have written an article for each topic. The most common question that I have received is why is annual assessment required? The next being what is annual assessment?

Many believe that a feng shui consultant’s job is over once the property has been checked, the changes recommended and the changes made. The initial audit does cover all the major changes required around your property. But you have to remember feng shui has a time concept, stars and their locations change every year. Therefore, the auspiciousness of the rooms in your house or office changes every year. For e.g. This year your office might be located in the area where the #8 is visiting, #8 generally means wealth and you might have done good business but next year the location of the star changes and your office then will be located in #7 that could bring in some problems during some months. An annual assessment ensures that you do not run into problems.

The initial audit is just the first step for you. Let's put it this way, you have bought a Mercedes, now to keep it in ship-shape condition, you will be required to take it once in a while to the garage for a check-up. In this case you will have to ensure that your feng shui consultant visits your property annually so that you, your family or your office are in ship shape condition for the next year. Below I have listed a few frequently asked questions regarding annual assessments. If anyone has more queries you can post them in the Queries & Answer section of this website.

What is an annual assessment?
The other word for annual assessment can be annual check up. Annual assessment is basically a rechecking of your property every year.

When do you require an annual assessment?
It is only after a year of the initial feng shui audit that you need to consult your feng shui practitioner for an annual assessment. Generally feng shui practitioners prefer to do annual assessments in the month of December/January because the Chinese New year starts in February and that’s when the location of the stars change (this can vary from practitioner to practitioner).

Why is an annual assessment important?
Well, there are many reasons why an annual assessment is required to ensure overall prosperity for you and your family. Some of the reasons have been listed below.

Firstly, there might have been some external formation change surrounding your property after the initial feng shui audit. For e.g. A new property might be under construction that may be affecting your property. Now these external changes do have an impact on your property or house. An initial audit covers all aspects till the audit date but what about changes that have occurred after the initial feng shui audit. That’s the reason why an annual assessment is imperative if you want to enjoy the full fruits of feng shui.

The second reason is the annual stars, in Fey xing (flying stars) feng shui, the position of the stars change every month and every year. That means the location of the auspicious stars change every year, infact every month. The location that is auspicious this year might not be the next year. An annual assessment of your property ensures that you know the auspicious and inauspicious locations in your property for that particular year. In return an annual assessment ensures that you do not face any problems.

The third reason is in San He feng shui; there are the annual stars that change their position every year. Now the annual stars can create problems if you donot know their exact location in your property. Digging around in that area or building something new in that area might bring unexpected troubles onto you and your family.

How much does an annual assessment cost?
It differs from practitioner to practitioner. Some charge half of the initial audit fees, some charge a percentage, some charge by the number of rotations of the earth (just kidding). It basically depends on the practitioner.

Will there be any structural changes during an annual assessment?
Technically there should not be any structural changes. But if the practitioner feels it is necessary then he or she might recommend them.

What are the benefits of an annual assessment?
Benefits are bountiful. You know which rooms in your house or your office should be avoided that particular year. You know when and where to take major decisions. You have the foreknowledge about when will be the right time for the right thing. You also have the foreknowledge of the problems you might encounter for that particular year and in which month. You also know which area to avoid doing repair works or to go digging around in. Basically you pay a premium to ensure nothing goes wrong for you in that particular year.
